The Designer Breed

Poochons

A Bichon Poodle mix, also known as a Poochon, Bich-Poo, or Bichon Poo, is a hybrid dog breed resulting from the crossbreeding of a Bichon Frise and a Poodle (usually a Toy or Miniature Poodle). These dogs are known for their friendly, intelligent, and affectionate personalities, as well as their hypoallergenic, low-shedding coats.

Standard Breed Profile

Height: 9” - 15” (male & female)

Weight: 6lbs - 17lbs (male & female)

Life Expectancy: 12-15 years

Features: They inherit the curly, wavy, or fluffy coat of both parent breeds, which is often soft and dense. They are also hyporallergenic

Temperament

Poochons are known for being friendly, outgoing, and intelligent, making them good family pets. They generally get along well with children, other dogs, and even cats.

Trainability

Their intelligence and eagerness to please make them relatively easy to train.

Grooming

Their coats require regular grooming, including brushing and professional grooming appointments, to prevent matting.

Hypoallergenic

While no dog is truly hypoallergenic, Poochons are considered low-shedding, making them a good choice for allergy sufferers.

Energy Levels

They have moderate energy levels and need regular exercise, such as walks and playtime.

Potential Health Issues

Like all dogs, Poochons can be prone to certain health problems, including allergies and eye issues. All our breeding parents have been Embark DNA tested against 230 breed specific health conditions and have been recognized as very healthy with no risks in the breeding pairs of dogs.

Not Officially Recognized

Poochons are not recognized by the American Kennel Club.

Hypoallergenic coat

Low-shedding & allergy-friendly: Thanks to both parent breeds, Poochons typically have a soft, curly or wavy coat that sheds minimally, making them suitable for allergy sufferers (though no dog is 100% hypoallergenic).

Intelligent and Easy to train

Highly trainable: Poochons inherit intelligence from the Poodle, one of the smartest dog breeds. They usually learn commands quickly and enjoy mental stimulation.

Great for first-time dog owners: Their eagerness to please and quick learning ability makes training easier than with many other breeds.

Adaptable to Many Lifestyles

Apartment-friendly: Their small size and moderate exercise needs make them suitable for both apartments and houses.

Good travel companions: Their size and temperament make them easier to travel with than larger breeds.

Summary

A Poochon is a wonderful choice if you're looking for a small, intelligent, and affectionate companion that fits well into a wide range of home environments. They combine the best traits of the Poodle and Bichon Frise, making them loving, playful, and adaptable dogs.
